Job Summary: 

We are looking for the Machine Shop Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations and activities to ensure on-time delivery of high quality components and drive safety, quality, and cost.

This role provides leadership to staff of ~25 teammates and will lead the team through a facility wide lean transformation during a period of business growth.  This position requires leadership skills, organizational and multitasking abilities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (include, but not limited to): 

  • Planning daily workload for different work centers (e.g. milling and turning)
  • Recommend capital equipment to improve processes
  • Lead process improvement initiatives for the machine shop to decrease lead time, improve quality, and drive productivity
  • Work closely with the purchasing department on insourcing and outsourcing opportunities for parts
  • Work closely with aftermarket department on delivery dates for parts and quotes
  • Provide excellent leadership to help teammates perform at their best, through motivating and developing them to achieve high performance
  • Be a good role model of the Markel Style

Education/Experience (include, but not limited to): 

  • Trade school or other Machinist/ Fabrication experience preferred
  • B.S degree in Business or Engineering is preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (include, but not limited to): 

  • Knowledge of a C/N/C and manual machinist, Sheet Metal mechanic/ fabricator and a Welder/ fabricator
  • Experience supervising staff to include performance management and coaching
  • Ability to motivate team to achieve positive results.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable working with different levels of the organization
  • Focused on teamwork and collaboration
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Experienced using lean tools and comfortable with change management

Working Conditions: 

  • Indoors (95%) and outdoors (5%) working conditions
  • Facility is heated in winter, but not air conditioned in summer
  • Employee must be able to stand on concrete floors for a minimum of eight hours
  • Kneeling, squatting, bending over and standing for long periods of time may be required to perform assigned tasks
  • Can occasionally be loud, especially in local areas where grinding or machine operation is taking place.  Ear plugs are provided, but not required
  • Safety glasses and steel-toed safety shoes are required
  • Long pants and a sleeved shirt (short sleeve at a minimum) are required
