Job Summary:

The position is part of the global AMF finance team, reporting to the Vice President of Finance of AMF, an operating company within the Markel Food Group. The AMF Director FP&A is responsible for all AMF global forecasting, annual budgeting cost analysis, establishing and implementing global costing and margin practices, and developing process improvements for key financial objectives including management reporting, forecast accuracy, and working capital improvements. This position will also have FP&A responsibilities for one or more of the reporting units of AMF.  This function acts as the analytical engine of AMF to provide insights and support optimal business decision making.

How You Will Impact AMF (including, but not limited to):

Financial Planning and Analysis.  Develop strategic partnerships with operational and functional leaders across the company and for assigned units to help them identify, analyze and diagnose performance against key performance indices.  Proactively monitor, bring awareness to risks and opportunities, and provide solutions to the Business Leadership Team to influence timely business decision making.  Drive information, analysis and conclusions necessary to allow the business to better understand its revenue, margin, channel, customers and overall business effectiveness to improve performance and lead the Company to stronger business results.  Oversee the review of financial statements offering ideas, insights and/or highlighting business outcomes/ concerns based on financial expertise.  Collaborate with key business partners, especially global accounting teams, operations teams, and IT to ensure the accuracy, integrity and timing at which transactional and other key data becomes available for analytical use. Responsible for the administration, analysis, and reporting of the Company’s financial forecast, annual budget, and operating plan.  Analyze operating company performance vs. plan and forecast and initiates change when necessary in conjunction with the Vice President of Finance. Complete ad hoc financial analysis, scenarios, ROI analyses and planning work as needed.  Integral finance partner to senior company leadership in key financial aspects relating to capital expenditures, presentations and quarterly business and Markel Board reviews Perform leadership role in financial due diligence of various acquisitions including model formulation, management presentations, and on-site due diligence as necessary. Monitor, calculate, and track key financial metrics.

Business Partnering.  Advise on pricing strategy and how to increase margin and profitability for the company and assigned units. Develop a good understanding of the relationship between operations, continuous improvement measures and financial statements.  Ensure full transparency over the financial performance of the company. Effectively and clearly communicate potential risks in a timely manner. Propose action plans to ensure that annual financial objectives are attained.

Cost Accounting. Deep knowledge of cost accounting with ability to optimize project costing process. Simplify, automate and consolidate processes and increasing working efficiency and productivity across AMF.  Define accounting policies and processes for project costing for AMF.  Design and drive productivity measures and improvements. Lead company-wide cost initiatives.

Management Reporting.  In partnership with Director FP&A, develop and present the monthly financial reporting package.  Analyze results vs. forecast, plan, and prior year benchmarks. Provide additional analysis and financial support for standard and ad hoc reporting requirements.

Team Leadership. Responsible for goal setting for the FP&A team and providing direction, guidance and on-going coaching to ensure achievement of the goals.  Responsible for development, training opportunities and succession planning to increase bench strength of the team. Create and maintain a culture of high performance and engagement.  Support the team environment and promote a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement.

Education/Experience (including, but not limited to):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance and MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 10 years’ experience in Finance and 3 years’ experience in a financial leadership role providing direction in the delivery of management/financial reporting and finance systems & processes.
  • Demonstrated sound analytical depth and strong technical capability in finance and/or accounting methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and analyze business opportunities and present findings in a logical way to all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills to be able to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients and partners.
  • Employee must be an experienced user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint), budgeting, financial reporting and general ledger software. Employee must also be an experienced user of other personal computer and software applications (AS400, Hyperion, and other ERPs a plus).
  • Exceptional organization skills and ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
