Installation Technical Specialist

We are currently looking for an Installation Technical Specialist to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. The ideal candidate will complete the execution of final machinery checkout and with coordination support from Assembly and Engineering, the ITS will complete machinery installations at customer locations, as well as provide support for Assembly teammates at our manufacturing centers.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Repair parts in the field, and document via report any areas of improvement
  • Lead efforts to provide feedback to the appropriate parties to either reduce cost or improve equipment functionality or ease of installation
  • Lead teams to solve problems in real time to meet shipment and installation timeline targets
  • Demonstrate the professional demeanor while representing AMF internally and externally
  • Support local assembly by performing builds as required
  • Lead the electrical, mechanical, and controls checkout and quality assurance stages of machinery through shipment
  • Oversee the installation of machinery in the field, including machinery erection, placement, connection, and onsite check out and power-up
  • Provide Field Service support needed (non-install)

Requirements:

  • 2-year Technical Degree and/or Electrical/Mechanical certification
  • 5 years of Electrical Experience
  • Ability to comprehend and execute verbal, written and drawn instructions (Engineering control drawings and/or schematics)
  • Comfortable working with variety of hand, electrical and pneumatic tools with the ability to select which is most optimal
  • Sound troubleshooting skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Can work and communicate effectively with multiple levels of both AMF and customers’ organization
  • Can quickly learn and adjust to customers polices (Safety, health, or any other policies)
  • A professional demeanor with the ability to play the required role in a customer setting (leader, follow or assist)
  • Must have own basic tools. The list of teammate-provided tools includes but is not limited to box/open end/socket wrench sets, Allen wrench sets, screwdriver set, tap handles, pliers, combination square, 9” level, and tape measure. English and metric tool sets/ lockable toolbox are recommended
  • 30% Travel to complete onsite installations

Qualifications:

  • Field service experience 
  • A solid electrical aptitude with demonstrated knowledge of NEC code and wiring techniques    
  • Knowledge of various types of variable speed drives, sensors, conveyors, PLC and human interfaces (incl. Rockwell and AB
  • Basic machine shop and fabricating skills (incl. cutting and drilling of various materials, dismantle, repair and re-assembly)    
  • PLC programming capabilities: Ability to understand existing programs, make required changes and troubleshoot in real time 
  • Understanding of power transmission parts (bearings, motors, reducers, belts, pulleys), pneumatics (air cylinders, valves), hydraulics and electrical circuits and how they work together

Working conditions:

  • Teammates must be able to stand on concrete floors for a minimum of eight hours. Kneeling, squatting, bending over, and standing for long periods of time may be required to perform assigned tasks
  • Conditions at customer locations will vary
  • Indoors (95%) and outdoors (5%)
