Our Richmond location in Virginia provides a dynamic work environment and a chance to join our team as a Purchasing Manager.


The Purchasing Manager will be hands-on and responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership of the purchasing team while executing buying responsibilities. The overall objective is the purchase of components, materials, OEM items, and non-standard items according to the needs of the company, actively controlling costs and vendor performance while controlling inventory levels. Candidates should possess exceptional leadership and communication skills and be able to sort through complex issues and create a path to a solution.

Duties Include:

  • Ensure the supply base is adequate to provide the necessary materials and equipment for the company to be successful
  • Lead a group of Buyers
  • Experience driving positive results through internal and external partnerships
  • Collaborate with any other AMF-owned companies to ensure maximum leverage is gained in procurement and inventory opportunities
  • Ensure inventory levels are established and maintained at the levels determined by the Product Groups
  • Collaborate across departmental lines to promote design standardization to ensure cost containment
  • Participate in management events as required
  • Understand and enforce company policies and lead by example

What You Need To Succeed:

  • Track record of driving supply chain excellence – customer OTD, supplier OTD, increased inventory turns, and improved cash flow
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Some college experience is preferred
  • Good understanding of MS Office products
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to gather, analyze, and find solutions independently or with a team
  • Prefer candidates who have experience with A3/ DMAIC / PDCA in practice and the ability to articulate successful implementations of the tools
  • Working knowledge of MRP and Microsoft Office products, D365 is a plus
  • Prefer a strong background in ERP/MRP concepts and configurations to support operational goals
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple projects/tasks according to deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of manufacturing technologies 
  • Understanding of project management techniques 
  • Must effectively organize a schedule to ensure timely completion of multiple projects running in parallel
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to meet customers’ needs while following company procedures
  • Conflict resolution skills
