Job Summary:

The position is part of the global AMF finance team, reporting to the AMF Corporate Controller, an operating company within the Markel Food Group.  The AMF Senior Accountant is responsible for U.S. plant and corporate accounting transactions, financial reporting, and assisting in design and implementation of key controls.  This leader designs efficient, standardized processes for accounting transactions, controls and compliance, and financial reporting, and helps administer financial aspects and structures of the company’s ERP system.  This position collaborates with operations teams to design effective business processes.

How You Will Impact AMF (including, but not limited to):

Accounting Operations.  Execute U.S. plant and corporate accounting activities. Maintain general ledger and prepare month-end close procedures and journal entries. Perform balance sheet, revenue, and expense account reconciliations. Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies. Design and implement efficient transaction accounting processes through continuous improvement and Markel Business System (MBS) discipline and certifications.  Work with MBS office and IT and make suggestions for automating processes and increasing working efficiency. Assist in administering financial aspects and structures of the company’s ERP system. Assist in internal policies, controls, reviews and audits.

Financial Reporting.  Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and documents. Analyze financial statements for discrepancies. Assess and automate current reporting processes. Develop financial reports using the company’s ERP system. Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the closing process and define ways to use existing or new tools (such as HFM, Hyperion Planning) to make improvements.  Ensure that ledgers and reports are closed and prepared in a timely and accurate manner. Provide additional analysis and financial support for standard and ad hoc reporting requirements.

Team Participation. Participate in goal setting for the accounting team. Provide leadership for other accounting teammates on more complex accounting tasks. Support the team environment and promote a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement.

Education/Experience (including, but not limited to):

  • Experienced financial professional with a BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • CPA and public accounting experience preferred
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience with a preference for global finance/accounting management experience working for multi-national companies
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong technical accounting background including US GAAP
  • Experience on Sarbanes Oxley compliance is preferred
  • Demonstrated process improvement skills in accounting and finance
  • Strong internal customer relationship & excellent communications skills; team player
  • Experience and knowledge with ERP, HFM and general ledger systems
  • Domestic and international travel up to 10%
